City Councilors Klarissa Peña and Pat Davis introduced a resolution declaring that Albuquerque will not support ICE and will protect “immigrants” (Note the absence of the word illegal) from any federal official’s attempt to arrest and/or deport them, even if they are known felons. The mayor and all the city councilors support this resolution.
The United States has laws on legal immigration, which is the only way someone can enter this country and become a citizen. Coming to the U.S. as an immigrant without going through the system is AGAINST THE LAW, pure and simple.
The mayor and the city councilors take an oath to “uphold the Constitution and the Laws of the United States of America and the Constitution and the Laws of the State of New Mexico.” By openly declaring Albuquerque as a Sanctuary City they are breaking the law and their oath of office. People who break the law are referred to as criminals.
A society that does not follow its own laws is nothing more than a third world country. When its elected officials openly break the law, society will descend into anarchy.
The increased level of crime and the rising percentage of illegal immigrants in our prisons is well documented. Our councilors want to educate, house, provide medical care, and welfare to these immigrants--even after they said they had to raise our GRT because they didn’t have enough money to pay for police protection and welfare programs.
And who foots the bill? Of course, the tax payers, who also have to live in a city with one of the highest crime rates in the country.
It has been suggested that this action is a part of the progressive wing of the National Democratic Party agenda and that New Mexico is a testing ground for progressive ideas. To think that a group would willingly destroy an entire state just to run experiments on progressive ideas is repulsive. We as citizens need to communicate our disdain for our city officials' behavior.
There is only one conclusion – our mayor and city councilors are criminals and only represent the illegal immigrant special interest groups and do not represent the citizens of this city. Their actions disqualify them as our city’s representatives and, as such, we the citizens should have a recall on every one of them.
